NACE / ASTM / ISO Automated Corrosion Rater
ASTM D665, D7548, NACE TM0172,
IP 135, ISO 7120, JIS K2510, GB/T 11143
Driven by innovation and the industry demand, AD Systems has developed a unique automated solution offering an alternative to traditional visual assessment of the corrosion level on the iron specimen's surface after exposure to the oil sample in the oxidation bath. Powered by digital vision technology, the CT10 provides a fast, accurate, and objective corrosion rating, eliminating the subjectivity and the significantly improving the reliability of the rating.
The operation is based on a homogeneous lighting source, digital color camera, specimen rotation system, and specially designed application software. The device is simple and intuitive to use.
The CT10 test is simple and straight forward. The iron specimen is prepared according to the standard test procedure (ASTM D665, D7548, NACE TM0172, IP 135, ISO 7120, JIS K2510) and is placed in the test chamber of the CT10. The operator enters sample information, using an intuitive graphical interface with touch screen panel, and starts a specimen scan. The specimen is rotated in specially designed lighted chamber and the instrument captures an image of uniformly illuminated specimen’s surface taken by digital camera. The software builds a flat image of the specimen surface, analyses it for presence of rust, calculates exact percentage of the corroded area to the total surface and converts it into a rating based on the selected method.
A detailed test report including % of corrosion, the rating, and digital images is ready in less than 5 minutes. With the CT10 the user benefits of fully documented test report which eliminates disputes between shipper and receiver of the product.
The complete procedure to evaluate rust preventing characteristics of mineral oils or corrosivity of pipelines cargoes consists of two steps. Firstly, a rust-free, freshly polished, cylindrical steel test specimen is completely immersed in a sample heated at specific temperature, a portion of water (distilled or synthetic sea water) is added, the solution is stirred during specified period of time (several hours). The seconds step consists in the inspection of specimen surface for a presence of rusting/corrosion after the test rod is taken out of the mixture. This inspection is done either visually or automatically by the CT10 and degree of rusting is expressed using a discrete scale.

The instrument captures an image of uniformly illuminated specimen’s surface by rotating it 360°.
A specially developed, proprietary imaging algorithm analyzes the surface image for presence of rust, calculates exact percentage of the corroded area to the total surface and converts it into a rating based on the selected method NACE, ASTM, ISO, ...
A detailed test report is ready in less than 5 minutes.
Complete test report including sample ID, operator name, date/time, standard, Procedure, Test duration, degree of severity of rusting and digital pictures of the specimen.
All details related to each test are recorded and stored into a local database. Multi-criteria search function facilitates retrieval of any test report in the database.
The result can be printed on optional printer. Versatile communication features allow complete test report storage on a USB memory stick and/or transfer it to a LIMS when the CT 10 is connected to a LAN.
